kembangan

destroy the self
one breath at a time
re-animate this being
one breath at a time
clutch the power
of the universe
into your heart

watch these hands
draw energy from the earth
adversaries stalk
menacingly
the cardinal points
of this new world

enter the arena
like garuda
striking
into a new dimension
grab the pulsing beat
transform the rhythm
into a cosmic dance
of life and death
feel the sound
in these bones
synchronizing the heart
seeing without eyes

this body flowers into a weapon
of self expression
power and grace
fight dance
creating and destroying energy
expelling demons
cleansing the air
for the resurrection
of a new reality
redistributing the power
with painful ease
inside this body
outside this world
lucid trance
frightening beauty
pencak

perdido y sin palabras

inside this body
outside this world
la vida parece duro y bruto
se siente surreal
what is real?
fuck reality

...

How do I cure this sublime addiction?
How do I spit out this delicious medicine?
How do I induce an amnesia to erase
the desire that pervades every cell in my body?
How do I dissolve this diamond with a tear?
How do I cool the sun with a raindrop?
How do I stop everything with nothing?
This love is bigger than me...

kado1

when winter gathered our city
and put it within the folds
of his chilly cape
kate and sapo lit a fire
and sat down to tea

los ojos de la luz

rapoela:
i know a woman
who enters my dream
words lift up from inside her
floating through the air
above her beauty
i touch the symbols
like fragrant living smoke
i inhale her delicious perfume
into my soul
she smiles
and breathes the light
je savoure la petit mort

k:
breathing
floating in moonlight
an embrace
affection
your warmth
so warm
breathing heavy
in the dawn glow
senses
intense
caress
atoms combine
dance
small death

k

she walks into the firestorm
she flies through the cosmos
she smiles at the sun
her heart is a maze
of strange beauty
i have glimpsed
her flame
i absorb it's warmth
in awe
of her powerful fragility

stardust

i woke up
and saw these hands
they were not mine
i saw my reflection
in the universe
of your eye
we are stardust
we are beautiful

conversations with k #2...

 rapoela

Palabras profundas
palabras livianas
mariposas sonrientes
dentro de nosotros
bright living sparks
fuzzy animated colour
flip around
and between
our minds
This happiness tastes exquisite
in the air around you

k

Mañana saludo
de despertar pensamientos
cara caliente
apasionado sentimientos
labios libre
de líneas de texto
callejón beso
hombre Lollipop
¡Buenos días!

conversations with k #1...

rapoela
This cold wind chews at my skin
immune to it's anger
we smile at it's violent breath
warmed by the beating rhythm inside
life's essence spirals through our being
reflecting the gods
and the cosmos from within
our souls
feel
the intensity
of this fragile home

k
Do not surrender to its violent assault
It's relentless gusts of autumn chill
upon your warm and loving existence!
As nature's tears for poor Demeter
swirl around your feet
gently turn your face
to the harsh weather
in defiance of Hades!
She will return
and bless us mere mortals
with magnificent Springtime beauty
once again

the musical renaissance of 1960's and 70's ethiopia...

mulatu astatke is considered the father of ethio jazz. He was born in the western ethiopian city of jimma in 1943 and advanced his musical education in london, new york and boston. from this foundation he combined jazz and latin american influences with traditional ethiopian music to create a new and unique sound.
yekermo sew

swinging addis...
regarded as the golden age of modern ethiopian music, the 1960's and 70's was a renaissance of unique musical styles in the horn of africa!

as in the rest of the world ethiopia in the 1960's was experiencing post war modernity. After the failed coup d'etat of 1960 emperor haile sellassie I compromised and showed an increasingly progressive approach. ethiopia became an international showcase of non alignment and african unity. addis ababa, the capital city and only metropolis of this centralised empire became the very essence of modernist audacity - music became a central theme of this renewed cultural spirit.

the influences from contemporary african america are there but the sound is uniquely ethiopian. as well as mulatu astatke, This period gave rise to great musicians and bands such as tesfa maryam kidané, girma bèyèné, mahmoud ahmed, Alèmayèhu eshèté, walias band and many many more.
